Monthnotes 28 Sep 2024
September came into Arizona this year, giving us a taste of fall weather, but summer has made an unwelcome comeback the last week of the month.
Our house build is still pending. Our HOA has given us the greenlight. We're good there. But our county is reviewing updated plans from their first round feedback. We hope to have a start date on construction within the next week or two.
Otherwise, it's been work, house planning, and hiking.
And while we've seen tarantula's around, we've never seen one on a trail, so we were excited to see this one while out one morning. This one was about the size of an outstretched hand.
Another thing we tried for the first time was disc golf. There's a course in Sedona and a co-worker of mine recommended some discs to get started. It primarily showed my wife and me that we need a lot more practice. Had a lot of fun regardless.
Movies
It was a light month for films. Just these two, but both pretty good.
- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice isn't a sequel I was ever expecting. I'm glad I had fun with it. As with most sequels, not at the same level as the original, but great to see Michael Keaton suit up for that iconic character once again.
- The Substance is quite the ride. Definitely more focused on message over story, but still an incredible homage to David Cronenburg films like Videodrome and his other body horror. Demi Moore deserves all the awards for her performance. It's rare to see an actor as brave as she had to have been.
