June is going to be a busy month. This is primarily going to be a post about the house.

The new house. Landscaping in progress.

Delays with the house have stretched our move in date for as long as we're able to.

Our lease normally would have ended today, but we were able to keep it going on a month-by-month basis if we needed.

After feeling end of June was safe, we notified our landlord who showed it right away, and now they have a new tenant lined up to move in early July. This means we no longer have an option but to move out and have the place cleaned up by this time next month.

We had originally though we'd be moving in already, but things are taking longer than originally expected.

We're hoping that by the end of next week or early the next we will be able to get our inspection and a certificate of occupancy. There's other stuff on our list to get done before we'd like to move it, but a bit of it isn't completely blocking our ability to move in or get our mail box set up at least.

Right now, we're targeting the 3rd week of June to empty our rental and move things into the new house.

Wupatki National Monument and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument

We were able to break away for my wife's birthday to visit a place on her list, Wupatki National Monument. We didn't realize until we were planning the visit that it's close to Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, as well.

Sunset Crater National Monument

I didn't realize we lived so close to a volcano that exploded far in the past, but here it is. Remnants of black lava rock all over the place and although I somehow don't have a photo of it, there's some impressive signs of the lava flow and huge rifts in the earth still left. The above photo is of a depression left from when the top of this entire area exploded.

About twenty or so minutes north of the volcano is Wupatki, which is a native american dwelling that had been occupied by at least one last native family up until the 1980's.

Movies

  • The Devil Wears Prada 2 was fine. I guess it was interesting seeing these characters again.
  • Mortal Kombat II is another sequel. A fun few hours of mindless entertainment.
  • The Sheep Detectives was worth seeing. Definitely the most family friendly film I've seein in a while although some pretty deep themes underlying what's going on.
  • Star Wars: The Mandolorian and Grogu was basicaly just another long episode of the series. Had some bigger action scenes, but not quite as epic as I'd have thought for the big screen.
  • Ton Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War is yet another series which now has a film as it's next episode. This was straight to streaming though and really feels just like the series did. Doesn't really stand alone as a film, but as the next season of the series, sure.
  • Obsession is my favorite film of the month. Mostly because it made me squirm in my seat a bit and the lead actress, Inde Navarrette, is incredible in this. She's one to watch.
  • Bugonia (2025) is one from last year I was finally able to catch. Better than I was expecting. Another good one from Yorgos Lanthimos.
